Seriously the Autobahn Car Tape is more than just a roll of tape!!
The 3rd word our son learned to talk was ‘car’.
First was ‘da da’, then ‘mummm’, then ‘car’. Followed by ‘bus’, ‘tra’ (truck)……..so I think from that early age its safe to say that this was an early incite into the obsession he now has. Always with a car in hand and even sleeping with this Lightning McQueen fan club tucked beside him, he lives and breathes cars!
He was never interested in trains, which was a shame as I loved the idea of creating tracks and playing with them with him. After growing up drawing rainbows and happy face trees this was a new experience for me in learning to play boys games. If I did set up his train set, the trains were quickly replaced with his cars.

After months souring for something for his cars you could imagine the joy when i first saw the Donkey Autobahn Car Tape. FINALLY something for boys and something I knew we would have so much fun with!! 33meters of pure roadway and roadway only! Sorry for the Thomas and Chugginton Fans but i figured you are either a car or train kid, toy story or dinosaurs – holden or ford…..
Apparently cats make great road tracks…….our cat is very patient
We were renovating at the time so I was a bit reluctant to put this down on our new feature grade floorboards (I blame my builder hubby’s voice in my head) but after immense research on the web I could not find anything to say that it would damage any floors. Great news and a huge sigh of relief as my son saw the cute box.
So this stuff was supposed to go on anything……carpets, tiles, flooring, glass, walls, lino…..anything.
AND IT DOES!!!
I have tested this on all surfaces and never a problem, even builder hubby was impressed with it. We could make up our own roads and after a week or two remove this with easy and then create another roadway using things around the house, toilet rolls as tunnels, small boxes as bridges etc.
Our son has always been a terrible eater and I could never get him to sit down to eat any meal – so problem solved
Meals now take 30mins rather than 1.3hours
I do admit that we had this tape on the tape for over 5-months and after many spills and craft cleaning it was a little tricky to remove it all in one piece as it left a little bit of glue residue BUT I put a little bit of Jiff on a kitchen cloth and it came off straight away. Now this is after 5-months of constant use and contact with liquid. Pretty pleased with that!
I gave a roll to my sons day care and they had this down on their carpet in a high traffic are. They could not recommend this enough as it sat on the carpet well, did not curl up or move, it did not leave any residue on the carpet and the kids gave this a huge thumbs up.
Small enough to fit in a bag you can take this anywhere – perfect for Gran’s house or if you live in a place with very little storage.
We took this away on recently holiday and as part of the family break after a difficult 6months and we specifically wanted to go to a place with no TVs, ipads or any technology device anywhere. Great idea when you all 4 of you are stuck in a small room and its a monsoonal rain for the full week which is a 15-minute walk along a muddy track to the main building and its too windy for umbrellas……problem solved! 2 happy kids and 2 happy and reasonably sane parents.
Holiday bliss
One thing we recently discovered to the joy of my son who has found a love for Lego like all boys at that age – is that it fits the Lego cars. Initially I thought the Lego would be too wide but the cars fit perfectly and the trucks just fit. This rainy day activity turned into a full day of building and fun.
Autobahn Car Tape is also the perfect with for Lego cars. Now we can make our own Lego City!
I’ve saldy come to the end of my 33m roll after a just under a years worth of use but this will now become a staple item and something I will always have handy. Well it doesnt take up much room and I can take this anywhere I go AND its inexpensive, so why not?
